Book Review :: Amy and Isabelle

As soon as I read the first line of Elizabeth Strout’s Amy and Isabelle, I knew I had been here before. But, the familiar sense was inviting so I kept reading, and the revisit was well worth it.

Because I’m so far behind, I’m going to take advantage of the fact that two of the reviews I need to write are by the same author and give two reviews in one post. Earlier this year I listened to my first Greg Iles novel – Turning Angel. Because it was everything I love in an audio book (remember I have ~45 minute commute twice a day, so because audio books are cheaper than therapy, I rely heavily on them), I was eager to try another one.

If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, you probably will love (and may already know about) Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book. When I picked it up, I didn’t realize it was young adult fiction. If you read here, you know that’s not my genre (Harry Potter aside, which I’m reading purely because of my nephew). And, I almost took out the CD when I heard “HarperCollins Children’s Audio,” but I’m quite glad I didn’t.

September was pretty dismal, at least for Babbette’s Book Blog. I look to my side bar & see that I only had four posts. I haven’t had that few posts since… well, since last September!
