Did you know that you could spend all day, every day for 18 weeks looking at blogs by people who read & then blog their reviews and still not have even made a dent in what is out there?
I’m recently coming to realize that, and shoot, it is overwhelming. And, a little bit guilt inducing. I mean, if I write about books & want people to read my blog, shouldn’t I be out there reading other people’s blogs? Well, I am making a serious attempt at resisting the guilt. However, I did come across a site today that I quickly added to my reader – Chick with Books. (She’s been added to the list on the left side of this page.)
In about three minutes, I found four books to add to my TBR pile:
Last Light over Carolina by Mary Alice Monroe
Annie’s Ghost by Steve Luxenberg
Off Season by Anne Rivers Siddons
Benny & Shrimp by Katarina Mazetti
Just a note on these books, never been a big Siddons fan, but “Chick” made this one really sound appealing. I do love Mary Alice Monroe & feel like I don’t read her enough. Annie’s Ghost is a true story that the author dug up in his own family history that involves sisters, a mental institution, the holocaust and secrets – what could be better than that? And Benny & Shrimp, well if the title alone doesn’t grab you… Just check out “Chick’s” review.
On another note, I am well ahead of my goal for reading this year, and so I’m feeling pretty good about that, but I am way behind on the number of ‘classics’ I said I wanted to read. Uh, oh. I’ve got some serious catching up to do if I’m going to make it & so let me apologize in advance if I don’t make it.
Also, I’ve been working all week on a review of Ava’s Man – my most recent read. This has been a tough one to write for some reason. I’ll do my best to get it out this weekend, though.
So, I’ll leave you with a few questions….
What’s your latest “great blog find”?
How’s your TBR pile coming along?
Have any of you read any of the four I just added to mine & what did you think?
I have tried…and tried…Siddons and I just do not like her style. I read Off Season–a lend from my mom–and my quote in my reading journal is "UGG! DID NOT LIKE!" (yes, in all caps). That's all I'm sayin'.
I am up to 24 books read for the year, and forging ahead. Of course, being jobless helps the reading. My TBR stacks is over 100–I've lost count, don't remember what I have, and don't want to think about it. I cull out four or five books at a time for the bedside TBR and focus on that instead.
Ok, then…scratch Siddons. That's all I needed to hear.
I don't know. If I hate it, that may mean you love it. 🙂
Don't feel too guilty!
Reading blogs is great but there aren't enough hours in the day to get to too many!
I totally hear you on the catching up on other blogs thing! I've been doing a lot of it too and you can get so "lost" out there with all the blogs that half the time I don't know whose I've seen and whose I haven't, lol!
I read a really great review for Annie's Ghosts but I haven't heard much about the other books you listed.
